Sara from Maria’s Home Care Companions won our September Star Carer award for her empathy and understanding the importance of enabling clients to have independence, choice, and control in their lives.
Sara joined the agency at the beginning of the pandemic so was straight in at the deep end during an extremely busy time. By her manager, she is described as motivated, happy and amazing with a genuine caring manner that makes her clients smile.
Thanks for all your hard work and dedication Sara, and congratulations on being CareLineLive’s September Star Carer!
What was your reaction to winning CareLineLive’s September Star Carer Award?
I was really really happy as I did not expect it. Not long ago I was also carer of the month in my company, so I was very excited and surprised.
What aspects of being a carer do you enjoy?
I enjoy it as it is a very fulfilling job. It’s not the same as other jobs. It’s a hard job, but you are helping people and you are doing good for other people. And that’s important as people really need our help.
How does CareLineLive’s Carer Companion App help you in your job?
I think it is an amazing app. You can see the rota in advance which is helpful so you can easily see when your shifts are and when you have free time. It is a very good way to have communication between everybody in our company and with the client.
It’s also a good way of keeping track of any issues and to see if they gets worse, I think it is very good, I like it.
What’s your experience of being a carer during Covid-19?
For me, it has been a good experience, it’s my first experience of care, as I joined from the hotel industry. It’s good practice wearing the PPE to help prevent infections as we don’t know who are carrying the virus.
I think it has been hard for those carers who have been taking care of clients who have had covid.
How do you switch off after a hard day at work?
It’s hard to switch off. Usually I have a hot bath, a nice meal, watch some telly and try to disconnect.
