Emma, from South Coast Care, was chosen as our January Star Carer as she is passionate, hardworking, always goes the extra mile for her clients and works well under pressure.
She was recently with a client who had a stroke and acted extremely fast in calling the emergency services, whilst remaining calm and professional throughout. She has also been committed to taking the time to help enable a client to regain her confidence in moving around her house again, helping with her independence.
Emma has been praised for providing excellent person-centred care at a high standard for all her clients.
Thanks for all your hard work and dedication Emma, and congratulations on being CareLineLive’ s January Star Carer!
What was your reaction to winning CareLineLive’s January Star Carer Award?
I was gob-smacked, it came as complete surprise. It was lovely to be recognised for the work that I do.
What aspects of being a Carer do you enjoy?
The fact that I can make a difference. I enjoy building a rapport with my clients and seeing the way people improve. It’s fulfilling when my clients open up to me as our relationship builds and sometimes this is in a different way to other people who are in their life.
I like palliative and end-of-life care as I find it really rewarding and a privilege. I think that caring is a much-needed profession and has been undervalued during the pandemic. It’s a vocation and passion, and not an easy job that anyone can do.
How does CareLineLive’s Carer Companion App help you in your job?
It’s good because I can see if there are any notes from a previous carer that I need to action or that tells me about how a client is feeling, whether a client has had an injection, or something else that I need to know about. It really helps with communication as you cannot always talk to your colleagues about a client that you are going to see and their care.
I can also easily check my rotas and tasks each day using the app. It’s the easiest system that I have used.
What’s your experience of being a Carer during Covid-19?
Carers have been essential during the pandemic; however I sometimes feel we have been the forgotten key workers. Families have relied on us more than ever before and every single carer has geared up to do the job that they need to do.
I feel the nation needs to recognise carers for the job we do, and an overhaul of social care is needed to help care become more person-centred. However, I feel that the level of person-centred care has improved since Covid-19.
How do you switch off after a hard day at work?
I like to go riding on my horse Henry who looks like Angus from Brave. I also make soap and candles as I am qualified organic skincare specialist. And I support my husband who makes jewellery for rock bands like Queen.
