We had a chat with Alyssa from D. Osteen Homecare Support about why she likes being a carer and what she thought of winning our December Star Carer award.
Alyssa was chosen by our new independent judge Sarah King, Membership Development Officer at the UKHCA, as December’s Star Carer for going above and beyond the call of duty. Alyssa offered to work extra hours when a member of staff was unwell thereby helping to maintain a safe service, which showed commitment. During the lockdown Alyssa has participated in arts and craft activities with her clients to combat loneliness. She is a team player and recognises the needs of her clients.
Thanks for all your hard work and dedication Alyssa and congratulations on being CareLineLive’ s December Star Carer!
What was your reaction to winning CareLineLive’s December Star Carer Award?
I was really happy with receiving the call to say that I had won the award as I have never won anything like this before. It’s great to see my hard work has been paid off and I am being recognised.
What aspects of being a Carer do you enjoy?
I love all of it, especially the relationships I form with the clients, it’s a really rewarding job helping them to remain independent and they are always very grateful. They always say “you make my day” when I visit them.
How does CareLineLive’s Carer Companion App help you in your job?
It’s just so handy to have everything that I need on my phone, no matter where I am. It also saves time spent on paperwork too which is great!
What’s your experience of being a Carer during Covid-19?
It’s been pretty much the same experience. We have just increased the amount of PPE we use and we are being regularly tested – our managers are very good and have handled the pandemic really well, I feel really safe going to work.
How do you switch off after a hard day at work?
My 2 year keeps me busy and I am doing a diploma in Lead Health and Social Care, so I spend time studying which I really enjoy. My diploma helps me with my job, as I can put into practice what I have learnt and the theory side helps with the practical side of my job.
When I do have some time to myself, I like to catch up on the soaps and watch films and in ‘normal times’ I like to go out with my friends.
