What was your reaction to winning CareLineLives Star Carer Award?
I was so chuffed at winning the award for carer of the month – I had no idea that I had been nominated and so it was a real surprise!
What aspects of being a carer do you enjoy?
I have been with Everycare Rugby for approaching 14 years and I really love caring for people – I think it was my calling in life! For me it is all about making a difference to people’s day, going in with a cheer and a smile and making them feel special and important in that moment. Personally I find it really rewarding knowing my little bit of support is allowing them to stay in their own homes – which is so important to most of the clients I visit.
You work as a care coordinator as well, what aspects of the role do you enjoy?
As a care coordinator I enjoy the challenge of covering visits – no two weeks are ever the same! I take satisfaction knowing our clients are receiving their preferred time and maintaining continuity for them.
How does CareLineLive’s Carer Companion App help in your job?
Careline has been a great addition to us as care providers in terms of opening up more doors of communication and being able to receive updates from the carers of our clients on a daily basis – this helps us when liaising with family and other teams to ensure we are providing the best service possible. Our team of carers currently visit my Grandmother – and so from the family point of view I find this really helpful knowing I can go to the care circle and see how she is that evening for peace of mind.
What are the challenges in your job?
The challenges I face in my job are in maintaining a good level of continuity as previously mentioned and keeping both staff and service users happy – the balance can be quite tricky at times in terms of managing availability, hours, preferences and everything in between, I cover calls myself when required and I am also a Mum to two young boys (10 & 6) so I find the key to managing everything is being well organized & writing lists!
How do you switch off after a hard day’s work?
An evening of winding down for me after a busy day would be to cosy up with my family – we love a board game – maybe with a glass of wine in hand! Or an evening family walk with my mischievous Labrador in tow!
